On Thursday 19th of March we held our annual Alumni Day. Graduates from Fashion Promotion (BA) Hons came back to Rochester to present to our current students. They shared with us their journeys in life after university, with a series of inspiring talks.
To start the day we had Un-Categorized, a styling duo (Stelios Stylianou and Emelie Hultqvist) who have had their work published on the pages of Vogue Italia, Tank Magazine, amongst others. After working together in their final year of study, they've gone on to continue working as stylists to forge a path in contemporary styling, creating work for both men’s and women's editorials.
Lisa Goody graduated in 2006 and has spent many years working within fashion PR to land her dream role as PR Manager of boho brand Free People. Part of the Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie Group, Free People's head office is situated in Philadelphia, USA which ensures Lisa can include international travel as part of her job description.
Next up was Emma Hopkinson. Emma has an enviable list of companies that she has worked for since graduating in 2009. In the ever changing digital marketing landscape, Emma's first job after UCA was at Topshop, working on their social media channels, iconic blog and special digital projects. Moving onto Urban Outfitters and Ted Baker, Emma then landed the job of Social Media Manager at Net-A-Porter before recently going freelance, in order to concentrate on her first passion, copywriting.
To end the day we had a panel including two of our most recent graduates. Dimitris Folas graduated in 2014 and holds down two roles: freelance fashion editorial assistant at Net-A-Porter, working across The Edit and Porter magazine fashion shoots, and contributing fashion editor at Jón Magazine.
Cassie Walker, who graduated at the same time as Dimitris, has gone on to be a contributing blogger for the newly launched Something About online magazine, which sees her classmate (Hollie Clark) and herself producing weekly shoots for this high end project. Last, but by no means least, was Rosie Day. Rosie graduated in 2010 and works as a Press Officer at River Island.
Thank you to our Alumni for coming in to talk to us. We can't wait to see more of you in 2016!
