Graduate Fashion Week 2015

We have had a whirlwind two weeks for our final year students, handing in their final major projects, exhibiting at our internal Rochester show and then heading to London to display their work at the very exciting Graduate Fashion Week

Running from Saturday 30th May - Tuesday 2nd of June at the Truman Brewery in East London, GFW showcases the work of over 1,000 of the very best students and graduates from the most influential and inspiring universities around the world. Attracting 30,000 guests each June, this annual event features 22 catwalk shows, exhibitions from over 40 universities and an acclaimed Gala Award Show alongside a packed schedule of live talks and workshops featuring leading names from the fashion industry.

There were two student nominations: Giorgia Tiraboschi was entered and came third in the Boohoo Fashion Innovation Award at GFW; and Bronwyn Stemp was nominated for the i-D diversity competition: "I wanted to portray diversity in the mixture of reality and high fashion, and to celebrate dark skin. I also did not want to put them in the stereotypical clothing of colourful prints. There is fashion happening in places other than the main cities at fashion week, which we often forget and ignore.”

We had some special VIPs on our stand: Hilary Alexander (Fashion Director of The Daily Telegraph) came by and admired Elvija Vitola's styling work and took to Instagram to share it with her followers. Then, the following day, Susie Lau of Style Bubble stopped to take a look through our final year graduate portfolios.

The Rochester catwalk show took place on the Saturday evening, and the PR was headed up by FMP Alumni Aurora Starbuck, who now works for Lamb To Slaughter. With a front of house team made up of current FMP students, there wasn't an empty seat in the house when the lights when up on that catwalk.

Congratulations to all our 3rd year students on completing their degrees, and thank you to all our team and friends of the course who made this possible. We'll see you all the same time next year!
